Welcome to the City of West, McLennan
County, Texas.

The City of West is home to 2,692 residents
and a much larger surrounding area,
incorporating 22 Texas Historical Markers.
The community traces its origins to the
establishment by Thomas M. West of a
stagecoach shop, dry goods store, and post
office in the late 1860’s. West was first
known as the Bold Springs settlement
which attracted settlers due to the
abundance of good water and the rich
wooded prairie black lands.  In 1880 the
Missouri, Kansas, and Texas railroad
erected a depot and later in 1882, changed
the name of the town to West in honor of
Thomas M. West.  The arrival of the railroad
and emergence of cotton production in the
1880’s attracted many Czech and German
immigrants to the area.  Today West is a
city proud of its Czech heritage as our
images will portray.
